Music BM with Music Education Concentration
If you're interested in teaching music at all levels of instruction, 91ΧΤΕΔ provides the highest level of teacher preparation and a wide variety of field experiences. Upon successful completion of this program, you will be eligible for full certification to teach music in all grades (Pre-K–12) in Rhode Island.
What to Expect
Your music education course of study will include:
- concentrating on a primary instrument
- extensive participation in chamber and concert performing ensembles
- coursework in musicianship and history
- the study of K-12 teaching methods
- clinical experiences in public school classrooms

Auditions are required for music, theater and dance majors at RIC.
You don't need to wait to be admitted to RIC in order to audition, but we recommend that you at least have your Admissions application completed by your audition date.

Program Learning Goals
Upon completion of this program, students will be:
- able to perform at a professional level, successfully compete in their chosen professional fields and pursue advanced graduate studies
- highly qualified and skilled music educators who serve in public and private schools, engage their own students and assume leadership roles in their professional associations

- able to educate non-music majors in ways that enrich, enlighten and encourage the development of their own musical expression and appreciation
- able to produce concerts and other musical events of the highest quality for 91ΧΤΕΔ and the community
