WINâ Announces the Development of a VoIP Enabled Family of SwitchesWIN Communications Corporation of Norcross, Georgia announces that they are developing a Voice over IP enabled solution that will be targeted for release the First Quarter of 2005. Quoting Mr. Robert Poole, President of WIN: “WIN has now solidified its VoIP development and deployment strategy. We have studied the market, watched the competition, and the evolution of VoIP technology. Through this discovery process we have found that the market in our line size has been slow to develop. We have also noticed that the hype has quieted into reality and that the wait for second-generation VoIP building blocks was well worth it. We also discovered that most end users asking about VoIP do not need it today, but want the capability to add it in the future. We are convinced that now is the time to move forward with a development that makes sense. It is now time for WIN to move ahead into the next generation of evolution.” Valente Abeyta Vice President of Sales and Marketing stated: “To force VoIP on a customer simply because it is available is not now nor ever will be WIN’s philosophy. Simply put, we will always keep the needs of our customers in focus and will endeavor, as with every switch introduced in the last twenty years, to bring a Voice over IP product to market that will meet these needs.” This in mind WIN is developing and will deploy a family of VoIP enabled switches. These switches will allow existing WIN customers to easily upgrade to VoIP applications as the need arises without changing out the whole switch. At the same time we will be able to offer new customers a choice of TDM only, a Combinations of TDM and VoIP, or pure VoIP. This will all be accomplished through a single family of switches. We will accomplish this by IP enabling the 440CT family of systems to meet the needs of our dealers and their customers. Our strategy allows the integration of VoIP into WIN’s 440CT family of switches without forcing a replacement approach on WIN dealers or their customers. It will also allow the serious deployment of VoIP in new installations as the need arises. To eliminate the replacement approach, that so many other manufactures seem certain to pursue, we are developing several types of VoIP cards, adapters, and stations using 2nd and 3rd generation VoIP technology. These designs will not only integrate with new 440CT family systems, they will also allow existing 440CT family systems to be retrofitted without replacing the whole system. This development strategy includes all systems in the 440CT series. The fact that we waited for second-generation building block technology, has allowed us to support multiple protocols within the framework of the design. We will support our own proprietary protocol as well as Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), and H.323. Being able to support multiple protocols gives us the flexibility to expand on the types of instrumentation we can support. Beta systems are expected to be ready for field trial in December 2004 with product being released for sale early 1st quarter 2005. WIN Communications Corporation is a major manufacturer of advanced state-of-the-art digital key hybrid telephone systems. These systems are marketed exclusively through a nationwide dealer network of some 300 authorized and certified dealers.
